Update 24 July: Wessex Water are due to be demobilising and leaving the site soon, potentially by the end of August. Fencing will remain in place for a longer period of time to allow the ground to recover.
Sewer repairs by Wessex Water have entered a new phase following successful re-lining of a damaged pipe.
Essential maintenance in the shoreline meadow area of the park started this week, work which will protect the environment by increasing the life of the sewer main by 75 years. Some pathways have been diverted in order to carry out the work safely, with a temporary new path created and signage in place to keep visitors and regular users of the park informed.
Wessex Water has carried out extensive surveys and environmental investigations with BCP Council as part of the project, which is due to be completed this summer.
A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “This work is due to the success of two previous phases of sewer re-lining at Upton Country Park, a future-proofing project that will help prevent sewer flooding and the risk of environmental damage.
“We will shortly be working on a sewer pipe that runs beneath the railway line and Lidl car park in Blandford Road, using ‘no-dig’ solutions below ground to minimise disruption.
“We thank visitors for their cooperation in following the diverted paths and apologise for any inconvenience caused by this essential work on our network.”
