Summer of Fun school holiday challenges!
Published Monday, 17 July 2023

Challenge 1 – ‘British Wildlife’ opens 22nd July!

Conquer the great outdoors this summer, with three challenges set over the 6 weeks of the summer holidays, each with a different theme. We designed them to entertain all the family, and to challenge the boredom of the school holidays.

Your first mission, should you decide to accept it, is ‘British Wildlife’ – you will search for the colourful animals that call the Country Park home. Learn top tips for exploring the British countryside and get to know your wood pigeon from your woodpecker.

Everything you need for all three challenges is in one booklet – available from the Welcome Centre. This year we are offering two different challenges for the 5+ and 8+ age ranges.

For each challenge you complete, you’ll get a stamp in your booklet – return to the Welcome Centre (open 10am-4pm daily) to collect it. At the end of the challenge, you’ll have earned your Summer of Fun 2023 badge and certificate.

Challenge 2 – ‘Bushcraft and Navigation’ runs from 5th – 19th August

Do you want to know how to survive the wild, with only what nature has given you as tools? This challenge will help you learn how to make a compass in the moonlight, what foods will sustain you, and how to stay hydrated. Join Julia in the depths of Grove Woods and learn how to move like a tree and be still like a rock. An immersive experience in nature for children and parents or guardians.

Challenge 3 – ‘Think for the Future’ from 20th August – 3rd September

Learn how to protect all you have learnt about in the other two challenges. The impact of stats and statistics will help you to make the right choices daily to protect British Wildlife. Extra task for a golden star – pick up a litter picker from the Welcome Centre and do voluntary park clean.

The challenge booklets are available to purchase from the Welcome Centre (open daily, 10am-4pm) for £3.00 – pencil, badge and certificate included.

Included in the 5+ booklet, Challenge 1, is some fun colouring-in to enjoy after your adventure. Ask in the Tea Rooms for colouring pens to keep the kids entertained whilst you enjoy a tasty treat.
