JANUARY 2018

RSPB Discover Upton


Thursday 11th January

10am-12pm, meet outside the Cabin by the Tea Rooms

£2 per person


Join the RSPB for an exciting and sociable walk to explore the fantastic wildlife that can be found in and around Upton Country Park. From waders to garden birds, the Country Park has it all! Situated at the top of wildlife-rich Holes Bay, star species during the winter months include avocet, pintail, kingfisher and firecrest.

Landscape Photography Workshop with Owen Vachell


Saturday 27th January

9.30am - 4pm, meet at Upton House

£45/adult


Upton Country Park has teamed up with professional landscape and nature photographer Owen Vachell, to bring you two workshops in early 2018, giving you the opportunity to develop your photography skills and capture the natural environment through the lens. With the winter months often providing the ideal setting for landscape photography, what better opportunity to learn more about your and your camera’s capabilities and to experience the Country Park from a different perspective.

FEBRUARY

Drawing from Nature: 'Walk and Draw' with Julie Herring


Sunday 4th February

10am - 12.30pm, meet at the Education Centre

£15 per person


Enjoy a gentle stroll and contemplate the natural beauty of our landscape and environment during these relaxed drawing sessions with local artist Julie Herring. You will visit locations throughout the Country Park such as parkland, shoreline, woodland, the walled garden and duck pond to observe and draw seasonal subjects. With Julie's expert guidance you will be able to gain advice on how to improve your drawing skills during the class.

All abilities welcome. 16+ years only. No booking required. £15 fee includes refreshments. The 'Walk and Draw' class takes place on the first Sunday of each month from February - November 2018.

Creepy Crawly Show

Upton House Wedding Fair

Historic Upton House opens its doors for our bi-annual wedding fair, showcasing it as an amazing wedding venue with leading local suppliers from the industry on hand. During the Nature Journal sessions you will have the opportunity to look closely at the natural beauty of Upton Country Park and capture the wonderful seasonal changes throughout the year. This informal and friendly drawing class will take place either during a gentle walk within the Country Park or as an indoor activity, with local artist Julie Herring on hand to provide guidance.

All abilities welcome. 16+ years only. No booking required. £15 fee includes refreshments. The 'Nature Journal' class takes place each Tuesday of every other the month through the seasons (i.e. March, May, July, September & November 2018).

REGULAR ACTIVITIES AT UPTON  COUNTRY PARK

Upton House Open Days & House Tours 2018:  21st January, 4th & 25th February, 11th & 25th March, 15th & 29th April, 13th, 27th & 28th May, 10th June, 8th & 22nd July, 4th, 5th, 19th, 26th & 27th August, 9th & 23rd September. Admission to the House is free for the sale of books, souvenirs and gifts. A guided tour of the ground floor rooms with a Friends of Upton Country Park volunteer costs £1.50 per person - details at the Friends website

Upton House parkrun every Saturday morning at 9am. A weekly 5km (3.1 mile) run for pure enjoyment - come along and join in whatever your pace. Visit www.parkrun.org.uk/uptonhouse for full details and course map.

Nordic Walking Classes every Friday at 9.30am for 1 hour. A great low impact outdoor activity using Nordic Walking poles which provide stability whilst recruiting between 80-90% of the muscles in the body. £4 per session, meet in the main car park.

Free Health Walks The Poole Healthy Walks Scheme offers free walks led by trained volunteers. Every Friday at 11.30am for an advanced walk extending to Upton Heath, and at 12 noon for a shorter walk within Upton Country Park. There is also a walk within the Country Park on every 2nd Saturday of the month at 10am. No need to book, just turn up and join in ... and be sure to stay for some post-walk refreshments. New walkers always welcome. Meet by the bus stop in the main car park.

Segway Tours Running up to 10 times a day throughout the year - a unique way to enjoy the Country Park! Take a guided Segway tour gliding through the beautiful gardens and woodland with a qualified instructor whilst you take in the abundance of plants and wildlife around you.
